Hermosa Doncella

Performed by Parroquia San Nicolás de Tolentino del Laborío.
Recorded July 13, 2025 at Iglesia San Nicolás de Tolentino del Laborío,
León, Nicaragua (acquisition date: July 13, 2025).
Performed during Catholic Sunday Mass. Performed with guitar.
Recorded by Claudio Alexander Urbina on behalf of Derek Piotr.

Originating in the colonial era in Nicaragua, this song is a Purísima, a Marian hymn associated with the Immaculate Conception and other feast days dedicated to Mary.
It is sung as an offertory hymn for this mass on the feast day of the

Beautiful Maiden, delight of God,
where do you walk with swift steps?

Why do you go to the temple of King Solomon,
and carry brown turtledoves?

Why does blush cover your fruit,
if you are purer and lovelier than the sun?

From the stain of sinful Adam,
you alone did the Lord wish to free.

Allow me, Lady, to go in pursuit,
following your steps to the temple of God.

The Lord of the world, captivated by love,
found refuge in your sweetest bosom.

You gave to the world without a word nor pain,
like a May bud, the innocent flower.

And you wear on your breast divine favor,
hanging the garment that gave us life.
