Si los cerros hablarían
Los mayores contestaría
Sus alegría
Recordando su juventud
Que se va acabando
Alegría, alegría
Ay, los mayores
Walinando ahí en Lacopampa
Pañuelito al viento
En Chanicocha y el Urucocha
Ay, las pajitas sí están jugando
Ay, con el viento
Esperando1 al aguacerito
Del Laco de ayer
Ay, qué dulzura, Madre Cunya2
Día y noche y agua del cerro
Hasta Pampacocha
If the hills could speak
The elders would respond
With their joy
Remembering their youth
Which is now fading away
Joy, joy
Ah, the elders
Dancing there in Lacopampa
Handkerchiefs fluttering in the wind
In Chanicocha and Urucocha
The blades of grass are at play
Swaying in the breeze
Awaiting the gentle downpour
Like the rains of the past in Laco
Oh, what sweetness, Mother Cunya2
Day and night waters flow from the hills
All the way to Pampacocha

1. Possibly "esterando," which would mean "covering the ground."

2. Cunya (sometimes spelled Cuñaq or Kunyaq) is the name of a mountain spring that feeds Carhuayumac, the most important canal in San Pedro de Casta's irrigation system. While the name's etymology is somewhat unclear, it may allude onomatopoetically to the sound of the water as it bubbles forth from the spring.
