Que te vaya bonito

Performed by Santiago Quintana.
Recorded August 11, 2023 in Katonah, New York.
Learned as a youth in Mexico City.

The ranchera "Que te vaya bonito" was written by the Mexican composer José Alfredo Jiménez in the early 1970s. Its best known performance is the 1974 recording by Vicente Fernández.

Tantas cosas quedaron prendidas
Hasta dentro del fondo de mi alma
Tantas luces dejaste encendidas
Yo no sé como voy a apagarlas
I hope things go well for you
I hope your sorrows come to an end
May you be told that I no longer exist
And may you forget me forever

May they give you what I could not
Though I gave you everything I had
I will never bother you again
I loved you, I lost you, so be it

So many things remain lingering
Deep within the recesses of my soul
You left so many lights burning
I don’t know how I’ll put them out
